Please find below some challenges you may find suitable for your child. Please remember to check the suitability of all challenges, and links to suggested challenges, before children are allowed to complete them.


Reading Challenges
​
  • Read a book that somebody else chooses for you
  • Read a book to someone else
  • Read to your pet
  • Read a comic, magazine or newspaper
  • Read a book that is your favourite colour
  • Read in your pyjamas
  • Read under the covers
  • Read a book aloud using funny voices
  • Read a book about animals
  • Reread your favourite book


Writing Challenges

  • Write a story with exactly 100 words
  • If you had €1,000, what would you buy and why?
  • Write about what it would be like to have a pet tiger
  • Imagine you are opening a shop that only sells items of one colour. What colour items would you sell in your shop and what items would be available?
  • Imagine you are a leaf. Write about your life during each of the four seasons
 
  • Write a letter to an elderly relative, neighbour, or family friend
  • Write a book review of your favourite book
  • Write a film review of your favourite film
  • Write the lyrics to your favourite song or make up your own song
  • Keep a diary of your daily activities


Maths Challenges

  • Keep a tally chart of the vehicles/ pedestrians that pass your house in 30 minutes
  • Identify patterns, shapes, or angles in your house or garden
  • Find 5 items in your house of the same weight or same capacity
  • Identify items in your house or garden which show symmetry
  • Draw a map of your garden and insert coordinates to identify items in your garden


Outdoor Challenges

  • Make a picture with leaves and twigs
  • Make leaf rubbings
  • Sketch a tree
  • Take photos
  • Identify 5 different types of birds in your garden

  • Help to bake a cake
