                                         Egg Hunt
All of the school went on an egg hunt. The sixth class hid the eggs in really good places - In holes, bird houses, bushes and the grass. We were divided into six teams and there were 4 people on each team. Each team had to find 4 eggs. We had to hold hands for the whole game. My team won. My teammates were Ella, Conor, and Dylan. We were very happy.

Funky Kids
We had a funky kids show on the 27th of March. Dennis and Olivia were teaching us all the dances. 1st ,  2nd and 3rd class did a song with bells. Dennis dressed up as a clown and brought up Rachel’s mother for a magic trick. Dennis shook a bell and it worked and he gave it to Rachel’s mother and she shook it but it didn’t work.
The senior room did a song with masks and then both rooms did a song called my teddy bear. In the middle of the show they had to wear grass skirts. Leah and Rachel mimed Hardy and Laurel. It was a very enjoyable show. We hope we have another funky kids show again.

Taster day
The Ballingarry taster day was in Ballingarry presentation secondary school. We all went on a bus and we were divided into 3 groups. We were mixed in with other schools. It was very educational. We did computers, science, woodwork, home e.c., language and P.E. The taster day was in November 2018. In the end everybody got a bag of sweets filled with popcorn, jellies and juice. It was very fun and most of our pupils from Slieveardagh N.S. will be going to Ballingarry presentation.       By Lucia Jorge
First Holy Communion
This year on the 19th of May Erin Tobin, Michelle Maher and Romy Cleere made their First Holy Communion in the church of Assumption in Ballingarry. The choir sang beautifully on the day. Active schools
In 2018/2019 our active school committee was Mr Ryan, Leah Switzer, Rachel Fitzgerald, Sean Barrett, Patrick Mullally, Romy Cleere, Emma Fitzgerald and Bridie Fitzpatrick. This school year we did a lot of games, sports, dances etc. Some activities that we did were walk on Wednesday, yard games, sports day, take on the teachers, basketball, Irish dancing and lots more. An inspector came on the 21/5/19 to see us play yard games and perform dances. We showed the inspector a power point presentation of all the things we did this school year. At the start of the year we did a survey to see all of the clubs everyone has joined.. We do super troopers for our active homework every night. Our active school week time table 2019 is:
Monday, lacrosse and orienteering
Tuesday, dodge ball and basketball blitz, unihoc
Wednesday, activity stations and school sports day
Thursday, Zumba dancing and rounder’s
Friday, swimming and hurling.
Some of the games we play for yard games are jenga, unihoc, blast buckets, foam rugby balls, sticky pads, Frisbees and lots more. Our active school slogan is:
‘Be active don’t be lazy go outside daily, an active school is a cool school, running, jumping, skipping …….. Be active in any kind of way.
At the start of the year we did an activity where we walked or cycled to school. We have an active school notice board to show everything we have done this school year. We are really proud that all of our hard work paid off and we were awarded our Active school flag in May.

Green School
This year our green school committee included Ms. Scott, Lucy Pollard, Lucia Jorge, Jonathan Lowe, Aoibhe Tobin, Michelle Maher, Connor Cuddy, Bridie Fitzpatrick and Tristan Cleere. Currently, we are trying to work towards our Water Flag but also maintain our other 2 flags {Energy and waste}. At the moment we are doing a lot of work to make people more aware of saving water like making posters, having tips of the month and Green School announcements. Each member of the committee has a particular job like light guards {Checking lights are turned off }. We have 2 light guards for each room who make sure we are saving energy. We do a spring clean also to make sure our surroundings are a cleaner place. Just outside of Ms. Scott’s room we have a suggestion box and in the senior classroom we have a suggestion cup where if you have any ideas on how to save water you write it down on a piece of paper and put it in. Every day after big break we do Water Warriors. Water Warriors is when a certain group of people have an allocated month each and everybody has a go to check taps if they are turned off or if they have leaks. If there is a bathroom or Classroom with a tap running that isn’t leaking we make sure it improves. At the moment we are also doing litter picking after big break so like Water Warriors A group of people has an allocated week. They go around the school for about 2 minutes making sure there is no litter and if there is they pick it up. The committee are also making posters for each tap to make sure they are turned off and for the posters there is a group of 2 making the posters and to make it fair we grouped up a child from the Junior room with a child from the senior room. We have a tip of the Month and a reflection of the month too.  At the start of the year we did a survey of how many taps we have and how many were left running. The majority of them were running so we made sure that improves. Ms.Scott is also collecting any electrical appliances and batteries so they can get recycled. Our Tip of the month was: Don’t turn on the dishwasher if it’s not full. On behalf of the students on the committee we would like to give a big thanks to Ms. Scott because she organised everything for us. We did an art competition on how to save water and you could win prizes. We have been given a water dispenser and reusable water bottles from Carambola, because students from Slieveardagh were using too many plastic bottles. So, this means we fill up our reusable bottle in the morning going to school and if we need a refill we go to the water dispenser in the school to refill the bottle and we are wasting less water and plastic.  Well done to all the committee and pupils on all the work they have achieved.

Aldi Rugby Stickers
Our school participated in the Aldi Rugby Sticker’s competition. We filled 2 posters and there were 300 stickers on each poster. You have to spend 30 euro to get 1 sticker, which means our school spent 18,000 euro to fill the posters. Our school got more than 600 stickers but there wasn’t enough time to fill a third poster so we gave the remaining stickers to other schools. If your school wins the competition you will get 50,000 euro worth of sport equipment or a training session with Paul O’Connell. All the schools that participate will get free rugby balls.

Our school garden is at the back of the school. We have a vegetable garden and a polytunnel. The senior room go out to the polytunnel for half an hour every week in the summer months. We are growing a vine, fig tree and tomato plants in the polytunnel. We are growing raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, carrots, spuds, beetroot and peas in the vegetable garden. At the end of every year all the students get to take home a bag of vegetables from the garden. This year we planted heather and flowers in the front of the school.

Basketball with Martin
Our school started to do basketball with Martin. We had eight sessions altogether.
First Martin made teams and each team wore different coloured bibs. Then Martin picked two people from different teams. One person try’s to score and the other person try’s to stop them. That was our first week.
The second week we were playing games. Martin made two teams. Each team were standing at a hoop. Then Martin blew the whistle and we started to shoot in the hoop. If one team scores five points we swap hoops and the team that got five points has to score four points. It gets lower every time you swap hoops.                                                                                      By Aisha

Cashel Fire Men
On the twenty eight of May two men from Cashel fire brigade came to our school to talk to us about fire safety. Their names were Greg and Kevin. They showed us the gear they have to wear going into a fire. They taught us about smoke alarms. They told us that they trained from six to ten in the night.  When they are going into a fire they have to stay together and they cannot see, so they have to walk beside the walls. If one man stays still too long with the gear on an alarm goes off. If it was in a fire they would have to try and help him get out of the building.

When he was finished dancing,  Cathal started dancing. Then when he was finished we all had to dance. The lady said that we are in a competition so if we dance very well we could win a prize. After that it was time for the lady to go home but before she went home she gave us RSA jackets and hats. Then we said thank you to her and waved goodbye. We had so much fun learning about road safety.     By Aisha Lowe

Tissues, apple cores, orange peels and soggy paper go into the waste bin and hard plastic goes into the recycling bin. Afterwards we played a game what stuff goes into each bin. It was nearly time for her to go home but before she went she said there’s a competition. She said you need to make a truck out of empty tissues rolls, plastic, cardboard and glue. She then said you can win an IPad or a school tour. Then she went home. Soon we were finished our trucks and Miss Scott took a picture of them and we sent the pictures to her.

At the start of the mass the Altar servers were coming up from the back and the Archbishop Kieran O’Rielly was walking up behind them. There was singing from the choir. Everyone was standing. He said Good Morning to you all and everyone sat back down. Then he got on with the mass. Caroline Maher did a reading at the start. Lucy and Rachel also did a reading and Eva brought up the bread. At the end of the mass every school took a photo with the Archbishop and we all went to our families and took more photos. Everyone had a great day.  Lucy went and had a meal .Caroline went to the New Park hotel and had dinner. Rachel went out for dinner in Langton’s.  Eva went to Fethard hall and had a bouncy castle and food with a cinema. Edward went back to his house and had a party and bouncy castle. Megan went for dinner in the Horse and Jockey.

Katie Godhue

In February, Katie Goodhue came to teach the junior and senior room art.
Before we started our art, Katie gave us all a twig from a specific tree. We each got a booklet with little clues on what twig we had.
For our art, we had to draw the twig Katie gave us in as much detail as possible. We used pastels to draw our pictures. Some of the trees Katie brought in were: oak, sycamore, beach, horse chestnut and a few more.
We all enjoyed Katie and hopefully she’ll come back again!
